driving-tip Driving Around Sydney

Driving Around Sydney

For your safety, all drivers should familiarise themselves with the Australian road rules. Australia’s largest city can be challenging to navigate, especially in a motorhome. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

Tolls: Sydney has an extensive toll road network, including tunnels, bridges and motorways. Don’t forget to set up your account (see “Pick-Up” section).

Motorways & Lanes: Sydney’s roads can get busy, particularly during peak hours. Be aware of multiple lanes, merging traffic and changing speed limits. Avoid the CBD and major roads during morning and afternoon peak times where possible.

Clearways & Parking: Sydney has strict parking rules, including clearways where stopping is not permitted during certain hours. Always check signs carefully before parking your motorhome, as fines can apply quickly.

Parking: Remember your vehicle height (3.2 to 3.5m!). Be extra cautious around underground car parks, shopping centres, low bridges and older roads. Always check clearance signs before entering.

Cruisin’ Motorhomes strongly recommend that you DO NOT drive at night. It’s just not worth it, here’s why. Also, please read the Dos & Don’ts while travelling in a motorhome and learn the difference between Sealed and Unsealed roads.
